Booneville calls itself the “City of Hospitality,” and if you spend an afternoon here, you’ll see why. It’s the county seat of Prentiss County and a college town with small-town warmth, and it sits conveniently between Corinth and Tupelo. The Franklin Agency helps buyers and sellers in Booneville and across Prentiss County from our office about 20 miles north on U.S. 45 in Corinth.
About Booneville
Booneville has about 9,100 residents (2020 Census). It was incorporated in 1861, named for Col. Reuben H. Boone, a relative of Daniel Boone, and grew up along the Mobile & Ohio Railroad. Today U.S. 45 connects Booneville with Corinth to the north and Tupelo to the south, and Mississippi Highways 4, 30 and 145 also run through town.
Booneville is home to Northeast Mississippi Community College (NEMCC), which serves students from across northeast Mississippi. The college brings ballgames, performances and steady demand for rentals.
Where to Live
- In town: Established neighborhoods with brick ranches and older homes close to downtown, the college and the schools, plus newer subdivisions on the edges of town.
- Near NEMCC: Smaller homes and rental properties, popular with investors and with college faculty and staff.
- Rural Prentiss County: Homes on acreage, mini-farms and hunting land. Communities like Jumpertown and the areas off Highways 4 and 30 offer room to spread out.

Booneville is served by two public districts. The Booneville School District covers the city, and the Prentiss County School District covers the surrounding county. Because the line between them matters, we confirm the district for every address before you make an offer.
