Iuka has something few small towns can offer. It feels like a quiet Mississippi county seat, and Pickwick Lake is just up the road. Some people want an in-town home near the historic district. Others want a few acres in the county or a lake place near J.P. Coleman State Park. Either way, The Franklin Agency can help you buy or sell in Iuka with real local knowledge. Our office is in Corinth, about 24 miles west on U.S. 72.
About Iuka
Iuka is the county seat of Tishomingo County and had about 3,100 residents in the 2020 Census. The town is named for a Chickasaw chief whose village once stood here, and it grew after the Memphis & Charleston Railroad arrived in the 1850s. The Battle of Iuka was fought here in 1862. In 1904, water from Iuka’s mineral springs won a top prize at the St. Louis World’s Fair, and you can still visit the springs at Mineral Springs Park.
U.S. 72 runs along the south side of town. Burnsville is about 8 miles west, Cherokee, Alabama, is about 14 miles east, and Corinth is roughly a half-hour drive. Mississippi Highway 25 heads north toward the lake and south toward Tishomingo. Woodall Mountain, the highest point in Mississippi, is just south of town.
